#1.LAKE KIVU

Lake Kivu is 90 km long and 50 km wide. It covers a total surface of about 2,700 km², some 1,370 km² or 58 percent of the lake's waters lie within DRC borders. The height of the lake is 1,460 m above sea level. The lake has a maximum depth of 475 m and an average depth of 220 m. Lake Kivu is home to around 28 fish species, half of which are cichlids found only in Lake Kivu. Lake Kivu is the largest local source of fish in Rwanda, providing more than 20,000 tons of fish per year and subsidizing fish imports for animal protein. The fishery supports 500,000 people in Rwanda and the DRC. #2.VISIT KIVU

1.Fishes The fish species are grouped into four classes: Clupeidae, Cyprinidae, Clariidae, and Cichlidae. The dominant species are Limnothrisa miodon (57.1%), Haplochromis spp. (17.1%), Tilapia rendalli (9.9%), and Oreochromis niloticus (9.5%).

2.Aquatic Plants: Aquatic plants in Lake Kivu play crucial roles in maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity. Species like water lilies and papyrus provide habitats for fish, filter water, and contribute to shoreline stabilization, enhancing the lake's resilience and environmental health.

3.Tilapia Tilapia fish, a common species in Lake Kivu, contributes significantly to local fisheries and sustains the livelihoods of many communities along its shores. Its adaptability to varying water conditions makes it a resilient species in the lake's ecosystem.
